Netflix Recommendation Of The Week!

Given that Grey's Anatomy is my all-time favourite show, I've been making desiring, googly eyes at Scandal for months. Written by Grey's creator, Shonda Rhimes, I knew the odds of me enjoying it were high but for some reason,  I just never found the time to start it. But the other day, finally, I did.

Kerry Washington plays Olivia Pope, a hard-to-please crisis manager who specialises in politically related cases. If you're being framed for something you didn't do, call Olivia Pope. If you find yourself in a compromising position that might threaten your career, call Olivia Pope. You see the pattern, here?

Having made her name helping current president Fitz Grant (Tony Goldwyn) reach the White House, a risqué romantic entanglement leads her to start her own firm Pope & Associates which aims to help people who Pope truly think deserve her expertise, and the dynamics between Pope and her colleagues are great entertainment to watch.

Scandal starts out a little cheesier than Rhimes' debut show, with it's in-your-face drama and fast-talking "gladiators" in suits, it does initially come off a little strong. What with a number of slick political dramas gracing our Netflix home pages lately (House Of Cards and Homeland), it appears much more over-the-top and predictable than most. But as the story progresses, it's appeal becomes more and more evident as it really settles in to its characters and plots.

I'd say it definitely takes a handful of episodes to really engage you but stick with it as it certainly becomes worth it. As it's interesting characters start to flesh out and their pasts start to become known  it makes for a very thrilling show that'll have you binge-watching for hours. It's not anywhere near Grey's Anatomy standard in my heart but it's undoubtedly a show worth checking out.
