5 Reasons You HAVE To See Gone Girl

On the week of its release, I managed to go see a preview screening of David Fincher's latest movie, Gone Girl and was blown away by the film I saw. Here, I list the best things about it and narrow down a mere 5 reasons why you cannot miss it this Autumn...

5. The score
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross previously worked with Fincher on his adaptation of Swedish novel, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and there was no denying that the haunting, rock-based melodies they picked for that film were anything but perfect. It is much the same with this movie they also collaborated on.

4. The visual style
One word describes the look of the movie and that is "slick". It's heavily shadowed, greeny tones make for a very eerie look about the film which perfectly reflects its twisted story. It's ability to almost fade out the backgrounds with it's colours and lighting, and have you focus solely on the actors is stunning to watch and engrosses you completely in the characters and the plot. Much like the music, the style of the whole movie is utterly intoxicating and you'll find yourself not even picking up your popcorn throughout the entire thing, through fear of missing a beautiful second.

3. David Fincher
Okay, so if you've seen his past films and didn't like them then chances are you won't like Gone Girl but if you're a fan of the unique director then you can't miss it. Never one to shy away from moody  material, it's possible that Fincher has taken on one of his darkest with this one and his representation of the best-selling novel is perfect. Truly.

2. Rosamund Pike
Well known to her own fans, but not so famous amongst the masses, under-the-radar Pike gives a sensational performance as Amy Dunne, and one that is likely to be acknowledged at upcoming awards. Her ability to portray a character you can't work out whether you admire, feel sorry for or dislike is faultless and beguiles you from start to finish.

1. You'll never accurately predict what's going to happen next
I thought I knew what to expect from Gone Girl and even though I anticipated some twists given the plot and genre, nothing could have prepared me for the shockers I was presented throughout the entirety of the film. It went to places I really didn't think it would go and towards the end, actually made me leave the cinema going 'Wow, that was so weird'. Being a fan of all things odd and ominous,  this was undoubtedly the best thing about Gone Girl
