Netflix Recommendation Of The Week!

I know it's quite hard to believe seeing as I do appear to watch pretty much every show that has ever been made but up until a week ago, I had never, ever watched The Walking Dead. But within just 7 days I've managed to watch the first 3 seasons of the HBO smash-hit show on Netflix, patiently awaiting the fourth season to start on 5* tonight. (I timed it well it would appear, which is good because we all love a binge-watch, don't we?)

See the problem was, I'd always hated zombies. Zombie movies were, in my mind, the most boring of the lot. What scared people so much about them? They dribble, they're brain-dead, they're ACTUALLY dead and often painfully slow to top it all off! I never really saw them as credible threats in so many horror movies that they are placed in. And the ones that were a little scary often came accompanied with terrible movies such as Resident Evil, which hammed up the genre so much, it was barely watchable. These reasons certainly put me off watching a whole series about them.

So, I don't know if I finally gave in to the peer pressure or I just couldn't find anything else to watch but I eventually caved in and pressed play on Season 1: Episode 1 and I'm truly glad I did. It's not the best show I've ever watched by any means, but it's undoubtedly worth following if you find yourself with a little extra time on your hands.

The show truly has some moments of brilliance. It really knows how to do character development (I suppose there isn't really much other to do in a zombie apocalypse than to have the characters talk but still), and it can't help but make you love all the characters it presents as it makes them so three-dimensional  and real, in an incredibly unrealistic setting. It's only flaw is that it sometimes relies too heavily on these "well-executed serious acting" moments when really, all audiences are screaming for inside is more zombie ass-kicking action!

Maybe it's the kind of the show that doesn't really work as well in a back-to-back session as it does in a regular weekly viewing and I can safely say, I'm quite looking forward to having to wait each Saturday to see what will happen to Rick and the group. Absence makes the heart grow fonder or so they say!
