Before I Go To Sleep review: A well-executed thriller... but not one you'll want to relive again and again

When a best-selling book gets turned into a movie adaptation, as it hits the big screen, viewers are usually split into two camps. Those who have read it and want to see a book they enjoyed created, within the medium of cinema, and those who haven't read it at all and are simply looking for a few hours of immersive entertainment of a film they like the look of. 

But as odd as it may sound, I fell into both categories when I went to see Before I Go To Sleep. You see, I was about half way through the book when I went, which put me in an unusual position of knowing some of the story but not all of it, and I am undoubtedly glad of that fact having now seen the film.

"The Good Stuff" season is upon us!

Towards the end of the year, cinemas always see an influx of what I like to call "the good stuff movies". Ready for Oscar nominations in the turn of the new year, directors, actors, screenwriters and special effects teams bring out the big guns to impress, which means us audiences get some film gems towards the Christmas months!

I've already seen a few of these types of films emerging and it's only October! So I thought I'd break down a bunch of films that I already think will get some kind of Oscar tip next year...

Stoker review: Not at all what I expected

So, today I watched a film that I have wanted to view for a very long time, Stoker. Being a massive Nicole Kidman fan, when I read the cast list, I didn't need much persuading in wanting to see this movie. Not convinced by Wasikowska's talents in Alice In Wonderland, but proved wrong after watching her in The Kids Are All Right, I was optimistic from the get-go and intrigued by the talent in the film.

All the visuals that were cropping up for the movie just made me all the more excited. The posters were so different to anything I had seen in a very long time, and I loved the style of not only the text and the poster themselves, but the clothes and look of the characters within the film. Then they released the trailer, and I could barely contain myself. When I described the premise to other people, I would say "I can tell this is going to be my new favourite film, I just know it!" But realistically, I was leaping too eagerly into something I actually didn't know much about at all.
