Maleficent review: Hell hath no fury like a woman horned

I first heard rumours that Angelina Jolie was going to play Maleficent in a film by the same name a few years ago now and the long wait was agonising, being such a big fan of both hers and Disney alike. As roles started to be confirmed and images and shots started to surface, I was almost beside myself with excitement that one of the best Disney villains was going to be played by what seemed like the perfect person to play her.

With a similar idea to the "the villain's not really that bad" premise of Broadway musical, Wicked, Maleficent unveils the previously untold story of the dark fairy who seemingly put a curse on an innocent baby for no reason. Making you realise that her actions, despite coming from an evil place can be understood. And that, someone hurt her so deeply that she actually became this way rather than was born with such a wicked heart.

Frozen review: Disney's latest will warm your heart this Christmas!

When they were much younger, sisters Elsa and Anna were inseparable. But when a playful accident results in Elsa hurting Anna; the elder of the pair, chooses to hide herself away for years, with the encouragement from her parents, in an effort to prevent herself from harming anyone else.

See, Elsa isn't just an ordinary young girl. Unlike the rest of her family, Elsa possesses the power to freeze anything she touches and make ice appear from her bare hands! Fearing that she will not be able to control her abilities as they get more powerful with age, the princess is persuaded to spend her days in solitude, never allowing her sibling or the people of her kingdom Arendelle, to know her true nature.

Film Review: Wreck-It Ralph

After 30 years of literally playing out the same routine, Ralph (John C. Reilly) has finally had enough of being the bad guy. In an endless rotation of smashing things up in the videogame he resides in, only for them to be mended by his game nemesis Fix-It Felix Junior (Jack McBrayer), he sees himself being seen more and more as the villain whilst Felix gets to bathe in all the good guy glory.

At a ‘Bad Anon’ meeting, featuring all the notorious bad guys most audience members will fondly recognise (Bowser, Kano and even the little ghost from Pac-Man), Ralph finally decides he’s had enough and things are going to change. After all, if you’re not a bad guy, why should you be the bad guy?
