Oscars 2015: Red Carpet's Best Looks

When it comes to fashion, it was an evening of two halves last night, as celebrities subconciously split themselves into two groups; those who donned dramatic dark outfits that made an eye-catching impact, and those who went for softer neutral shades nodding their heads to old-hat 50's glamour. Deep reds, blues and striking monochrome were favourites amongst the stars last night, as were lemon, peach and cream tones.

Here's a look through of who impressed me the most with their carefully chosen clobber!

THE DARING
(L-R clockwise) Rosamund Pike, Rita Ora, David Oyelowo,
Meryl Streep, Reese Witherspoon

Evidently, the stars opting for these colours were not nervous about being noticed and boy, did they catch our eyes! English actress Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) sizzled in his Givenchy fire-engine red gown. Also wearing red, (a risky move when you know you're automatically going to blend into the carpet) was Selma's David Oyelowo, in a suit made by Dolce & Gabbana.

Alongside red, monochrome was a popular colour choice last night. Many wore dazzling white against sharp black but no-one did it better than Reese Witherspoon, beating them all with her custom-made Tom Ford gown. Going for the same colour palette as Witherspoon but with slightly more sophisticated shades was Meryl Streep's personalised Lanvin blazer/dress combination.

Adorned in Marchesa couture, Rita Ora's platinum blonde hair and sun kissed skin worked beautifully with her rich blue gown with gold accents.

THE DELICATE
(L-R clockwise) Jennifer Hudson, Anna Kendrick,
Emma Stone, Gwyneth Paltrow, Chloë Moretz

Much more understated than the outfits chosen by those above, this set of celebs really embraced the spring look early with neutral and pastel colours.

At first glance, Jennifer Hudson's Romona Keveza dress may look quite plain when it comes to such a prestigious award ceremony, but the colour looks absolutely stunning against her skin tone and fresh-faced make up. It's small but beautiful finishing touches help to set it all off. Opposite Jennifer's lemony hues comes Emma Stone's lime green Elie Saab beaded gown which complimented her hair colour well.

Anna Kendrick matched her trademark pale skin with a pale salmon floor-length dress designed by Thakoon. Chloë Moretz also chose to match, but not her skin! Her golden hair worked with the golden shimmers in her classically cream, Miu Miu dress perfectly.

Gwyneth Paltrow looked chic and elegant in a Ralph & Russo gown with flower shoulder detailing.

MY PERSONAL FAVOURITES

Whilst, I admit, I know very little about fashion, these four were amongst some of my personal picks of the night. All a little different from the norm, like Naomi Watts' snake-skin, brick pattern gown or Eddie Redmayne's velvety blue tux but I love a risk-taker and I like when people brave new looks! They didn't make Best Dressed because I feel like universally, they're a little too "out there" but for me, these four owned the night.

Benedict Cumberbatch in Lanvin and Naomi Watts in Armani Privé.
