I usually recommend a film or a fictional television series when it comes to Netflix but documentaries have had my attention this past week and I've thoroughly enjoyed learning as I've watched them. Makes a change from the usual comedy that I normally just put on in the background when I'm busy doing something else.
Along with a few others, one that I found very interesting was Michael Moore's Bowling For Columbine. Made in 2002, the feature focuses on gun crime and violence in the US, whilst exploring the reasons behind the 1999 Columbine High School massacre which killed 15 people.
With some controversial scenes and shocking statistics, it makes for some very fascinating viewing and will leave you urging your friends to watch it too, just so you can discuss how you feel about the issues raised within the 119 minute documentary.
Some of the attitudes of the people and companies under scrutiny within the feature are so ridiculous, they're almost laughable and means that Bowling For Columbine has an almost black humour side to it. Making you laugh one minute and feel exceedingly uncomfortable the next.
It has a few celebrity interviews within it, ranging from the late Charlton Heston to Marilyn Manson to South Park creator Matt Stone who actually grew up in Littleton, Colorado, the location of the Columbine shooting.
So check it out and see how it makes you view the gun laws in America. It may open your eyes to a subject you didn't really know much about.
