Amy Poehler plays Leslie Knope in Parks And Recreation
When Sky Atlantic started up in 2011, it was evident that we loved American shows over here, Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire and Game Of Thrones were just a few examples that had millions of us tuning in every week. But there were two things still wrong with this set-up that just wasn't satisfying all TV lovers needs.

For starters, not everybody has the luxury of having Sky channels and secondly, where was all the golden comedy that the US is so well known for?! Well, those issues were soon to start changing...

At the beginning of 2013, BBC Four announced that they would be broadcasting the hit US comedy Parks And Recreation, which follow Parks department leader Leslie Knope as she tries (more than enthusiastically) to make the fictional town of Pawnee a better place. The mockumentary style and ensemble cast work perfectly with the straight-faced humour and no doubt BBC Four will keep airing series after series until it has caught up to NBC, which is starting season 6 in the next few weeks.

It seems like BBC are on a roll when it comes to nabbing great shows from across the pond, as Canadian/American Orphan Black put it's first episode on BBC iPlayer, a week before it's television air. The new series originally aired on BBC America in early 2013 and has already confirmed it will have a second season. The show demonstrates an exceptionally large fan base on social media sites such as Tumblr and Twitter which is no doubt, it's reason for coming over to the UK.

Clever, funny and majorly sci-fi, Orphan Black has one-to-watch Tatiana Maslany playing seven (yes, seven) different characters as they discover they are all clones and investigate into how they are all connected and just who created them.

And it's not only BBC channels that are lapping the best of the USA, Channel 4 have just recently starting advertising Avengers Assemble follow-up television series, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D which starts only two days after the states, on September 27th.

The series looks like it will carry on straight from where The Avengers left off, with agents dealing with the aftermath of the events that took place in the film. If the success of Marvel's previous endeavours are anything to go by, it will certainly do well.

If you're a self-confessed avid fan of American shows over more homegrown stuff, then these series are bound to get you into watching the box instead of your laptop, once more. We can only hope that they keep bringing over the best of the US over here!
