5 Reasons Why I'm Glad I Found 'Lost Girl'
Being one of those people who sees no purpose in life unless I'm religiously watching my new series obsession, episode after episode, I often ask my friends if they have anything they would recommend. Lost Girl was mentioned to me a long time ago, and whilst I was intrigued after looking up the premise, I never started it, until a few days ago.
Now 3 seasons down, I'm awaiting season 4 like the rest of the show's avid fans. While we all wait, here's just some of the reasons why you should be watching it...
1. It's old-school cheesy science fiction, and we love it.
The lead character Bo is a succubus, a fae-being who sucks the "chi" out of people during sex to stay alive, albeit with man, woman or fellow fae. Not sold yet? Well, nearly every episode we see a new kind of fae, with their own unique power and many other supernatural-type things along the way. It's a whole new sci-fi world to learn all about, and the more you learn, the more you want to know.
2. It's like Buffy The Vampire Slayer meets True Blood, crossed with Charmed.
Lost Girl has elements of nearly every show we love and it's that combination that not only makes it work well today but also give off a sense of nostalgic style. It has the "Scooby-gang" aspect of Buffy, with each member bringing their own little quirks to the show the sexiness (with possible even more sex scenes) of True Blood and the slightly 90's-style supernatural antics that we loved from Charmed.
3. There's a love triangle!
If Twilight taught us anything, it's that audiences like a good love triangle, and this show has had a steady one across it's 3 seasons so far. Centred around main protagonist Bo, her affections are split throughout between hunky werewolf Dyson and blonde brain-box human Lauren. Being monogamous isn't natural to a succubus so will Bo manage to ever stay true to one person and one person only?
4. The characters are genuinely likeable and nice. How often do we see that?!
Despite being able to kill people just by kissing them, Bo has morals. She won't kill for pleasure and refuses to align with either the Dark or Light faes, worried she might lose her humanity. The relationship she has with best friend and roommate Kenzi is endearing to say the least providing pretty much 90% of the show's humour.
5. Intelligence is sexy.
When is it in television shows that we see the geek get the girl? Well, Lost Girl doesn't like to play by the generic TV rules and in this show, "nerding" out is hot and it's certainly not always the bad boy that wins. Our token doctor sees more-than-enough action with our favourite succubus and is practically referred to as "Dr. Hotpants" every other episode. She may not be the one who wields the weapons into fights with evil fae-beings but she's the brains behind the operations and the other characters show their appreciation frequently! For a change.
I could go on and on, but then I wouldn't want to spoil it. After the first episode, you may not feel like you're into it...by episode 5, you'll be sat watching for hours on end.
Season 4 of Lost Girl premieres November 10th on Showcase, and sometime next year on Syfy.
